Para~Play

Rachel and Sarah Pickthall have recently been commissioned to develop Para- Play for a Paralympics Archive Art Pilot – 2007, for Bucks Arts Partnership (BAP), WheelPower-British Wheelchair Sport and Dada-South. This project is being developed in anticipation of the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Paralympics.

Rachel and Sarah worked in collaboration with Andy Blake Paralympian athelete and Captain of the GB Basket Ball Wheelchair team and Tiina Tuomisto (Finnish circus performer)

The focus of this pilot project was to bring together young disabled and non-disabled young people in 2 schools with disabled artists and atheletes as a starting point to explore different bodies and ways of being , interpretation, representation and the kinetics within mainstream and disability artforms and paralympian sport.

The contact with the young people resulted in imagery and film capturing the spirit of this rudimentary exploration which will include their own archives

The ambitions were that the pilot also captured the paralympic values for 2012 of determination, courage, inspiration and equality
